Back to the Future

In 1985, director Robert Zemeckis introduced the world to the time-travelling adventures of Doctor Emmett 'Doc' Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and his high-school companion Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in the sci-fi film Back to the Future.

In this first instalment, Marty accidently goes back to 1955 and prevents his parents from ever meeting. To rectify his mistake, he is forced to find a way to bring his parents together – otherwise, he will start to fade from existence.

This cinematic sensation pioneered the use of time travel as a genuine plot device, capturing audiences' imaginations thanks to its charm and humour. The two quotes featured on the medallion, '1.21 Giga Watts!' and 'Great Scott!', have become staples of pop culture.

As also depicted on the medallion, the DeLorean first took flight in the critically acclaimed Back to the Future Part II (1989). Travelling to the future, Doc upgraded it to include the now-standard hover conversion.
