Who doesn't look forward to the short film before a Pixar film? They can make you laugh or cry, but we love each and every one of them! In honor of our beloved Monsters Inc. turning 20 years old, we wanted to compile our top favorite Pixar Shorts!
5 - For The Birds (2000)
This is an older one! For The Birds was initially released in cinemas to be played before Monsters Inc. It follows the story of a large, awkward bird trying to make friends with a group of smaller birds. The smaller birds don't take kindly to the bigger one! We think this is one of the funniest shorts Pixar have made!
4 - The Blue Umbrella (2013)
The Blue Umbrella was premiered before Monsters University. This short is about a blue umbrella and a red umbrella who fall in love. We never thought we would be rooting for an umbrella romance, but here we are! This is one of the more sweet Pixar shorts, ending with the blue umbrella and the red umbrella meeting each other properly.
3 - Lava (2014)
The plot of this short film is a sweet one! Lava is about a volcano wanting to find love. Every day for a thousand years he sings, an underwater volcano hears his song and falls in love with him. It ends with the two volcanos finally meeting and becoming a single island together! This one would have been a tear-jerker if it didn't have a happy ending!
2 - Piper (2016)
Our number two spot goes to Piper, which aired before Finding Dory. This short follows the story of a baby Sandpiper, who develops a fear of water whilst trying to hunt for food. We love the message of this short because it's all about overcoming fears and insecurities. Also, Piper is just the cutest!!
1 - Bao (2018)
Our absolute favorite Pixar Short has to be Bao! Bao follows the story of a lonely mother. While making Bozai for her husband, one of the buns comes to life. She raises the bun like a child, but becomes very overprotective. As the bun gets older, he tries to leave but his mother refuses and eats him! As the mother grieves, her real son enters the room. After sharing an emotional moment, they reconcile. This short was a tear-jerker and left a lasting impression on us.
